Romanians who intend to visit India for short-term stays are eligible for the new Indian eVisa. The eVisa is an electronic travel authorization that allows foreigners from over 160 countries to enter India without having to apply for a traditional paper visa.
Originally launched in 2014 for tourists and those visiting friends and family, the eVisa for India can now be used by Romanian travelers for:
These 3 different types of Indian visas can all be applied for online.
Do Romanian Nationals Need a Visa for India?
At the moment, citizens of only 3 countries (Bhutan, Nepal, and the Maldives) can cross the Indian borders without a visa. This means that, unless they hold an Overseas Citizen of India registration certificate or a Persons of Indian Origin Card, Romanian nationals must obtain a visa in order to enter the country.
What Indian visa should Romanians apply for?
Fortunately, this does not mean that they need to contact an Indian embassy or consulate. Romanians have access to the online India visa application so that they can request their travel permit electronically.
The eVisa for tourists grants Romanian travelers to explore India for stays of up to 90 days. It also allows for multiple entries within its validity period of 1 year.
The business eVisa for India is also valid for 365 days, but its holders can stay in the country for up to 180 days in total.
The online visa for medical purposes has a validity of 120 days, of which 60 can be spent in India.
Romanian passport holders who need to remain in Indian territory for longer and/or travel for reasons different from the ones outlined above (for example, for work or study) should apply for the appropriate paper visa.
Indian diplomatic missions abroad can advise them on what type of visa best suits their circumstances and assist them in lodging the application.
Required Documents for Getting the India Visa for Romanian Travelers
Each type of visa will have its own requirements and conditions. The eVisa requirements for India are minimal and very easy to be met by Romanians.
Before they can submit their application and obtain their electronic visa, Romanian citizens must make sure to have:
- A Romanian passport that is valid for at least 6 months after the intended date of arrival into India
- A current email address. The whole application and review process is done online and all communications will be sent via email
- A credit or debit card to cover the application fee
- A passport-style photo that has been taken recently
All the above supporting documentation can be submitted electronically. Travelers are asked to upload a copy of their passport’s biometric page.
The photo must be of good quality and on a white background, with the applicant’s face clearly visible.
How Long Does it Take to Get a Visa for India From Romania?
The eVisa is the quickest type of travel permit that Romanian citizens can obtain for India.
The application only takes minutes in itself. It is designed to be self-explanatory and straightforward so everyone should be able to complete it independently. However, Romanians are allowed to help their friends or family members submit their application should they need assistance.
It takes an average of 24 hours for the Indian authorities to review applications and grant the eVisa. However, Romanians are encouraged to apply between 2 to 4 days in advance. That is because, in rare occasions, delays can occur. That is especially the case around public holidays or when the application misses information or part of the necessary documentation.
