India is a popular tourist destination. In 2019 alone, 11 million visitors traveled to the country, an increase of 3.1% from the previous year. To assist foreigners and streamline applications, the government of India has simplified its visa process. From 2014 the online Indian eVisa has become available to citizens from over 169 countries, including Vietnam.
The eVisa for India presents 4 main subcategories:
- Tourist eVisa (which also covers visiting friends and family)
- Business eVisa
- Medical eVisa for short-term medical purposes
- Medical Attendant eVisa
Can Vietnamese Citizens Travel to India With an eVisa?
Vietnamese citizens are eligible to travel to India with an eVisa by applying online. This means that time and money is saved as there is no need to visit or book an appointment with a local Vietnamese embassy or consulate.
Requirements for Vietnamese Nationals to Apply for an Indian Electronic Visa
Before applying for an Indian eVisa, the necessary requirements must be met. Vietnamese travelers must have the following documents at hand:
- A completed eVisa India application form
- A Vietnamese passport with a validity of 6months when applying for the eVisa
- A document-style photo (the photo must have a white background and must be uploaded in the JPEG format and between 350×350 pixels and 1,000×1,000 pixels)
- A valid email address
- A valid credit or debit card
Which Type of eVisa Do I Need for India as a Vietnamese Citizen?
There are 4 types of electronic visas for India; tourist visa, business visa, medical visa, and medical attendant visa.
All four online visas are available to Vietnamese travelers.
Tourist eVisa to travel from Vietnam to India
Thanks to the Indian eVisa for tourism, Vietnamese nationals can travel to India for a maximum of 90 days.
It is a single-entry visa that can be used for sightseeing, visiting friends and family or taking part in yoga programs. Vietnamese passport holders must arrive in India within one year of the visa approval.
Indian business eVisa for Vietnamese Travelers
The eVisa for business authorizes a foreigner to travel to India for business purposes.
This type of eVisa allows double-entry into India for a maximum stay of 180 days in total. Please note that this is calculated based on the visa holder’s first entry into India.
Business use includes the following activities:
- Sales, purchases or trade
- Attending technical and/or business meetings
- Setting up industrial/business ventures
- Overseeing business tours
- Delivering lecture(s) under the Global Initiative for Academic Networks (GIAN)
- Engaging or participate in exhibitions or business/trade fairs
- Providing expertise or a specialist skill in connection with an ongoing project
India Medical eVisa for Vietnam
A Medical eVisa is intended for those Vietnamese applicants seeking short-term medical treatment.
Citizens of Vietnam on medical eVisas are permitted triple-entry into India with a maximum stay of 60 days from the first date of arrival.
Important information: A photo or a scanned image of the letter from the hospital receiving the patient in India including the company letterhead must be provided when applying to an India Medical eVisa. The letter should also state the date of the expected start of treatment.
Medical Attendant eVisa available for Vietnamese applicants
Vietnamese passport holders also have the option to obtain a Medical Attendant eVisa.
This serves the purpose of accompanying a patient who will be receiving treatment in India under the Medical eVisa.
With a Medical Attendant eVisa for India, the conditions reflect the same of the Medical eVisa, also allowing triple-entry into India with a maximum stay of 60 days. Please note that only two Medical Attendant eVisa can be granted for each Medical eVisa.
How Do I Apply for an eVisa for India From Vietnam?
The eVisa application process is very easy and straightforward.
The request can now be submitted online which makes it easier for Vietnamese passport holders as there is no need to wait in long queues or book an appointment at the Indian embassy or consulate.
Once the application is completed and reviewed, Vietnamese nationals will receive their eVisa for India within 2 to 4 business days. Please note that the issuing of the eVisa could sometimes take longer.

Traveling From Vietnam to India
Vietnamese travelers can enter India through 26 designated airports and 5 designated seaports.
Please note that entering India via land ports with an electronic visa is not authorized. Visitors are permitted to leave the country via any of the authorized immigration checkpoints (ICPs).
It is highly recommended to print out a copy of the approved eVisa to present to the Indian border control officers upon arrival.
